Read and back up
your LS PCM.
Step zero of any tune. It takes a few minutes, costs nothing and is the one file you should never lose.
Why a full read matters
Your stock read is the factory calibration for your exact vehicle: your VIN, your options, your gearing. If a tune goes wrong, or you sell the vehicle, or you just want to start over, that file gets you back to stock. Downloaded "stock" files from the internet are often for a different OS or vehicle.
How to read with TuneBench
- Connect your adapter with the key on, engine off.
- Open Flash and tap Read vehicle.
- Keep the phone awake and on a charger until it finishes.
TuneBench uploads a small kernel to the PCM's RAM and reads the entire flash: 512 KB on a P01, 1 MB on a P59. Reading is free and makes no changes to the vehicle.
Where to keep it
TuneBench keeps the read as your stock version inside the project. Also export the .bin and store it somewhere off the phone: cloud storage, email it to yourself, or a USB stick in the glovebox. You can share stock reads in the Discord bin-files exchange to help others with the same truck.
Restoring stock
Open the project, pick the stock version and write it. On a licensed vehicle, writes are free, so going back to stock never costs anything.
Tune it yourself, tonight.
Free to read, edit and log. License a Gen III LS for $50 when you're ready to write.
